Live Bird Handling
Live Bird Handling is the first starting section in poultry processing. After the live birds are transported from farm to slaughterhouse, this process is often performed by the automatic conveyors, weighers and crates washers.
The systems and equipment used varies from continent to continent and country to country depending upon the environment, general preferences and the size and accessibility of growing houses. The machinery and equipment are selected according to the capacity of the facility.

Slaughtering & Defeathering
Meridian provides a complete range of poultry slaughtering & defeathering equipment. From small lines, semi-manual systems to automated system running at over 6,000bph. We have the right combination of technologies to ensure perfect quality results.
This process starts with the hanging of live birds into stainless steel shackles, driving by an overhead conveyor system. A bird stunner may be required depending upon cultural and religious requirements. After slaughter, the birds must enter a scalding system to loosen bird feather. Once scalded, the birds pass through the automatic plucking machines where feathers are removed.

Evisceration & Giblets
Meridian supplies wide range of evisceration equipment to reduce labor and improve quality. These include the automatic transfer of chicken from the defeathering line to the evisceration line as well as the transfer off the evisceration line to the chillers.

No. 4 Chilling
Meridian supplies a complete range of screw chillers for cooling eviscerated chicken carcasses in water prior to cut-up or packing. Chilling process is to ensure that the poultry, after slaughtering and evisceration, reach lower body temperature before the cold storage process. This guarantees a better quality for the product.
